what are committee of adjustment hearings?
When renovating or building a home, and before construction begins, homeowners are required to approach the City Council’s Committee of Adjustment to decide on minor variances and permissions. The Committee primarily consists of citizen members whose goal is to ensure the proposed changes or developments align with city bylaws, official plans, and regulations.
We Are Here To Help
Are you unsure where to start with your renovation or custom build? Our diligent team is committed to helping our clients navigate the entire Committee of Adjustment procedure, as it can be complex and time-consuming. We ensure the process is carried out smoothly, with attention paid to detail. With a firm understanding of building bylaws and requirements, our architects work closely with the client to obtain approval for the build.
The process takes between three and four months, from application submission to the final decision. During this time, the FrankFranco team will research requirements, identify the minor variances that seek adjustment, and prepare a presentation for the hearing. Our architects will then approach the Committee with the client, outlining all necessary variances in need of approval. After the hearing, there is typically a three-week appeal period before the decisions are finalized and we can move ahead with the visionary project.
